Subject: I don't hate this,
but I guess it's not my favorite period for his music. It's sounds grungy, and he sings like he's got emphysema.

Essentially this is a show with multiple songs about shit on the dashboard that sounds beyond bearable, even charming. The show opens with two tunes sung solo by Ryan before Freightwhaler joins him to continue those dashboard tunes. Not to knock Ryan but a pretty pedal steel can save even the most inane, indecipherable song. Still, several of these songs contain brilliant moments that deserve a second listen. A certain raw quality indicates that these songs are sort of thrown out there with the hope that something badass blossoms. As a performance, the humor's as irreverent as usual, and the AUD recording passes muster when considering chronological circumstances.

"That Waltz Song" particularly shines as a cogent exercise of Adams' songcraft. Most notably, this is the first live performance of "Bar Lights," which would later be released on Pneumonia.

Seeing as how nearly all of these songs have been played live at most a couple times, this is worth a listen for Whiskeytowners and Cardinologists alike.

Thanks for posting this show.
